In 2005 Dieter Vassel took several of us to Germany and we visited relatives and family villages and cities. We visited Barbel Leist Grauel in Berlin and enjoyed a lovely dinner and visit with several family members. Barbel's father was Walter Leist, the great uncle of all us Vassel-Leist cousins. Walter's wife was Ute Karolina Engel and Ute's mother was Auguste Anna Amalie Bertha Metzler. Barbel gave me an 8 page document tracing the Metzler family back from Barbel's mother, Ute. So far I have entered 30 Metzler ancestors and their spouses into my Legacy database. I was able to find additional information on this family on the website www.geneanet.org, a European website that has been very helpful in our family research on several lines. Family by family and line by line, we press forward in our family history research! Barbel's son, Stefan Grauel, also invited us to their apartment the following morning. He has some of the paintings and furniture from the Greiner family. We enjoyed our visit with them very much! Here are some pictures of our visits with Barbel and her family.
